A CAMPAIGN by Bolton Hospice and The Bolton News to raise £110,000 for the Hospice at Home team has almost reached its target.

Contributions from generous readers, money raised from fundraising events and donations have brought the total to just over £100,000.

Only £10,000 is now needed to reach the target.

The appeal was launched in January last year to commemorate the hospice’s 20th anniversary.

The Hospice at Home service allows people with life-limiting illnesses to be cared for at home surrounded by their family and the money will enable more people to be cared for at home.

The hospice has a team of three nurses who go out into the community and help district nurses to care for people coming to the end of their lives.

So far, fundraising events have included a skydive, sponsored runs, bake sales, a 12-hour golf marathon, a hospice-inspired birthday party, a sponsored hair cut and a dressage competition.

Staff from The Bolton News held a bake sale, took part in Movember, quit smoking and held a choir performance to raise money for the appeal.

Readers are being encouraged to support the appeal and help it reach its target.

The campaign is also being supported by Bolton comedian Peter Kay and boxer Amir Khan.

Alice Atkinson, fundraising manager at Bolton Hospice, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported the Hospice at Home appeal so far.

“We are so close to the £110,000 target now, and reaching it will mean we are able to offer the choice of remaining at home at the end of life to more local people facing incurable illnesses.”
