A WIFE has spoken of her heartache after her husband was left with "catastrophic injuries" in a hit-and-run smash.

Police have released shocking CCTV footage of the incident six months after Michael Ward, from Bolton, was knocked down in John Dalton Street in Manchester.

Mr Ward was crossing the road at about 2.30am on August 21 when a silver Vauxhall Corsa ploughed into him and drove off.

The 28-year-old suffered serious head injuries and is still in hospital.

His wife, Maryrose, said: “The impact this has had on our lives has been truly devastating and our three children have been left with broken hearts.

“I go to see Michael every day at the hospital and it is deeply upsetting to remember him how he was before the incident and to see how he is now.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who recognises the man in the image to contact the police as soon as possible.

“You may think the information you have is irrelevant and not helpful but any detail you can supply could be vital in the investigation.”

Police have also released a picture of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

It is believed two groups of men left Silks club in Lloyd Street moments before the collision.

One group of men then walked towards Clarence Street, where it is believed they got into the car.

As the other group was crossing John Dalton Street the car ploughed into them before driving off, leaving three men seriously injured in the road.

A 30-year-old man was left with a broken leg while a 32-year-old man escaped with only minor injuries.

Police have arrested five men and a woman, who have been released on bail.

Det Con Marie Eldred, said: “While three men were injured, Michael in particular has suffered catastrophic injuries that he will never fully recover from.

“He and his family have been left totally devastated and it is important that we get justice for them.
“If anyone knows anything about the incident, those in the car or thinks they recognise the man in the CCTV image please get in touch.”
