DRIVERS are being warned there could be delays as repairs are made to traffic calming measures in Westhoughton.

Work is due to start on the re-laying of speed humps in Market Street on Monday and is expected to last up to six weeks, dependent on the weather.

The humps, and larger raised areas, have deteriorated and the block paving needs to be re-laid and the ramps re-asphalted.

The road will not be closed entirely but access to some sections will be limited as each speed hump is re-laid in turn. In addition, the one-way system in Wood Street and Marsden Street will be revoked during part of the work. Businesses will remain open as normal and the loading bays will be unaffected. Local car parking will also remain open.

Bus services will be diverted along Mill Street and Cricketers Way. Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for highways, Cllr David Chadwick, said: “There will be some disruption to through traffic while this work is being carried out, but the businesses along Market Street will still be open as normal so people should not be put off doing their usual errands.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. However, the repairs are essential to maintain the smooth flow of traffic in the future.”

Work will take place weekdays, between 8am and 4pm. For details, contact the Bolton Council on 01204 336677.
