Neighbours turn litter busters

DOZENS of residents came out in force to clear Daubhill of litter — collecting 60 bags of rubbish.

About 31 children and adults gathered in Derby Street on Saturday, February 16.

They wanted to clear up rubbish created by takeaways and other residents, and had been concerned about the rubbish left near grocery shops and health clinics.

Using litter pickers, bin bags and tabards provided by Bolton Council and environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, the group travelled along Derby Street and the surrounding roads picking up litter.

The group want to encourage residents and businesses to dispose of their waste properly.

Organiser Razina Bargit said it had been a great day and everyone had worked hard.

She added: “It’s nice to see people really are concerned about the environment.

“We have made a positive contribution and we hope we have inspired people to keep their streets clean too. There are lots of fast food outlets, restaurants and grocery stores, so it’s essential everyone takes extra care in ensuring they dispose of their unwanted food, take away cartons and general litter properly.

“Business owners, especially fast food outlets, should recognise the amount of waste their produce can generate, and encourage proper disposal and cleanliness.

“We all want a pleasant environment to live in.”

I have every sympathy with you, however we pay our Council Tax for a variety of reasons. The mindless individuals who insist on dropping rubbish wherever they happen to be at the time are putting a huge strain on the budgets for streetcare. The council are out there 7 days a week but I fear they are fighting a losing battle until these morons are re-educated. As a child I was always told that if there was no litter bin, then take it home and dispose of it properly.

i was brought up to bring your rubbish home .i am always in back street picking cans ,crisps packets etc up noone else bothers ,if i had manfredis business i would pick that rubbish up because it reflects back on him it is right next to his gate boils down to simply having no pride
