  • "PS I was only on that stretch of road 20 minutes before, but the way the traffic speed down the hill it is no surprise that accidents like this can happen - GMP should be more to combat the speed on the road!"

Two "seriously injured" in collision

A MAN and a woman have been taken to hospital with “life-threatening” injuries this evening following a major road collision.

Police were called to Blackburn Road in Astley Bridge at 6.50pm following reports of an incident between Belmont Road and Bar Lane.

A Greater Manchester police spokesman said a car had been in collision with a pedestrian and the road is closed in both directions while officers carry out an investigation.

The spokesman said: “It was a serious road traffic collision and they were serious, life-threatening injuries.

“Our serious Road Traffic Collision unit is on the scene carrying out an investigation which is why the road is closed.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact police on 101.”
