TRIBUTES were paid at a charity evening to a former councillor who was town mayor four times.
They came at the Mayor of Westhoughton’s Variety Concert at The Bethel, in Park Road, Westhoughton, when the late Cllr Brian Clare, former mayor of the town, was remembered.
The last mayor’s charity evening was held two years ago and was attended by Cllr Clare.
The latest fundraiser made £880 which will go towards charities chosen by the current Mayor of Westhoughton, Cllr Ryan Battersby. They are KiDs of Bolton and Ovarian Cancer Action.
A percentage of the money raised will be donated to Derian House Children’s Hospice, in Chorley, as Cllr Clare raised thousands of pounds for the cause.
Cllr Clare died in July, 2011, aged 83.
He is the only person to serve as mayor four times. Cllr Clare joined Westhoughton Town Council when it was formed in 1985, first representing Daisy Hill and Chequerbent.
About the charity event, Cllr Battersby said: “I was very grateful to Christine Latham, the organiser.
“It was a hugely successful evening with fun, laughter and food.
“All the entertainers are Westhoughton people who had given up their time for free.”
The concert included entertainment from compère and singer Joe Hart, singer and musician Jim Berry, magician and comedian John Fearnley and singer Mike Lester.
