POLICE dogs now have their own page on Facebook.
Lancashire Police’s Dog Unit has launched a page on the social networking site to allow people to keep up-to-date with their work.
It includes photos of the dogs and updates on some of the work they have been involved in.
Sgt Neil Fitzgerald, from the Dog Unit, said: “We find that residents are always really interested to see our police dogs.
“Facebook provides us with an opportunity to inform these residents about the work the dogs are doing to keep them safe.
“Our dogs get involved in a wide range of policing operations from drug searches to big events.
“Last year some of the dogs went to the Olympics.
“To keep informed about what the police dogs are doing in your area, like our Facebook page.” Lancashire Constabulary has 35 working police dogs including German Shepherds, Malinois, Dutch Herders, Springer Spaniels and Labradors.
Last year the dogs were involved in over 100 drug searches.
To follow the police dogs search Facebook for Lancashire Police Dog Unit.

For all we know it could be a "special" constable that has set it up - and remember "specials" are only volunteers!
Or it could be a case that the FB page could be updated, by one of teh dog-handlers when not on shift - again not using tax-payers money.
The story doesn't say, which doesn't help but I like the way all the above posters presume that its happening whilst at work and presume its at the expense of tax-payers - how cynical!!!
