Snow and high winds close school

SNOW and high winds have shut down a school in Bolton today.

Rivington and Blackrod High School is the only school to close in Bolton due to “severe weather conditions.”

A message on the school’s website said:”RBHS School is closed today due to poor weather conditions on site.”

Trains from Bolton to Manchester Airport and Manchester Victoria are also delayed by up to seven minutes.

Much of Britain faces a white weekend with widespread snow storms and strong winds expected.

The met office says Bolton could see up to 5cm (about 2in) of snow but that it will be shielded from the worst of the weather by the Pennines, which could see up to 30mm (1.2in) of snowfall.

Experts have also warned of windy conditions.
