FOUR Bolton groups have been nominated for gongs at the National Diversity Awards.

The ceremony will take place at The Queens Hotel in Leeds on September 30 and will be hosted by reality TV star Brian Dowling and CBeebies presenter Cerrie Burnell.

Bolton-based organisations Daytrippers, The Jennifer Charity, AFC Masters and Bolton Hindu Forum are all shortlisted for awards.

Daytrippers, a charity that organises days out for disabled children and their families, has been nominated in the disability category.

An anonymous nominator said: “We as a family now look forward to all the school holidays, whereas before we discovered Daytrippers we used to dread them coming around.”

Also nominated in this category is AFC Masters, a football club for disabled people that was founded in 2005.

The club has teams for men, women, over 16s, over 11s and under 11s.

The Jennifer Charity, which was formed by Graham Edgington, from Harwood, has been nominated in the gender category,.

Mr Edgington, who shot to fame as part of the Father and Son act on Britain’s Got Talent with his son, James, lost his wife Jennifer in a car crash when his son was a baby. The charity aims to help widowed fathers and their families through bereavement. In the race, faith and religion category, Bolton Hindu Forum has been nominated for its work in supporting Hindus.

Awards’ chief executive Paul Sesay said: “If ever there was a time to celebrate and elevate the truly staggering diversity of talent the UK has to offer, it is now.”
