ABOUT 60 campaigners gathered in Victoria Square this afternoon to protest against Bolton Wanderers' new sponsorship deal with payday loan firm QuickQuid.
Angry fans and community leaders chanted "Gartside out" and "QuickQuid out" as they launched a petition demanding that the club reverses the deal.
Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy, a long-time campaigner against payday loan companies, travelled from her constituency in London to protest against the move.
She was joined by Bolton West MP Julie Hilling, who said: “It is a really sad day for Bolton Wanderers FC and the community of Bolton.
“I fear the sponsorship deal will legitimise payday loan companies and the level of interest they charge really concerns me as these companies exploit the needy and less well off in society.
"Bolton Wanderers is a family club, with a proud history. I feel the club should actively re-think their sponsorship deal, despite the money involved.”
QuickQuid has entered a two-year deal with the club, replacing the existing deal with online bookies 118BET, which expires next month.
The QuickQuid logo will replace the 188BET logo on the club’s matchday and training kit.
