A CHARITY night is being held in memory of a big-hearted Widnes nurse.

Robert Smith was only 53 when he died in 2005 from motor neurone disease.

His 28-year-old son, Mark, from Halton View, said: “He was such a lovely man. He was absolutely fantastic. He would do anything for anybody and he had a fantastic sense of humour.

“Motor neurone disease is a very rare and unknown disease which is starting to affect younger people.

“I want to raise awareness of this condition and raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.”

Veteran Widnes entertainer Jonnie Rocco, aged 72, of Dean Street, is organising a charity star night on Friday, June 7, at 6.30pm at Mill Brow Snooker and Social Club.

Acts will include Stephanie Vallantin, Paul E Keenan, Silhouette Duo and Colin Davis.

Tickets priced £3.50 will be available on the door.
