LITTLE Kane Carpenter is facing surgery on his knee after he was knocked off his bike in a hit-and-run.

The nine-year-old was riding his bike near a park in Bradford Street, Farnworth, when he was hit by a Peugeot 106.

He was thrown through the air and landed on the bonnet of a parked car, before falling to the ground.

His distraught mother, Zoe Warburton, was just a few feet away with her younger daughter, Alisse.

She raced over when she heard the bang as Kane, who was panicked, got up and tried to walk towards his mother, dragging his left leg along the ground.

Miss Warburton, aged 28, said: “The car came round the corner and hit Kane, but then the driver left and did not stop to help.

“I can’t believe that she didn’t stop when clearly Kane was injured.”

Kane hurt his knee injury in the crash, at just before 6pm on June 25. He spent five hours in A&E at the Royal Bolton Hospital and has been told he will need further treatment as it is swollen and may need to be drained.

Miss Warburton, of St Germain Street, Farnworth, added: “His knee is a real mess. He panicked and ran toward me after it happened, and that made the injury worse.

“He also has bruises, but he has been back to school and they have helped him.”

Kane is a pupil at the Forward Centre in Breightmet and has now returned to school.

A driver has handed themselves into police following the incident and has been bailed.

Police investigations are ongoing.
