A HOAX Facebook page recruiting staff for the reopening of one of Bolton’s biggest nightclubs has been exposed as a scam.

The administrators of the Facebook page called Club Koko announced plans to reopen the former Ikon Jaxx club and asked for job seekers to send in their personal details.

But when police contacted club owners the Luminar Group about the Facebook group, they had no knowledge about Club Koko or the relaunch.

The owners and licence holders of the Bridge Street venue say there are no plans to reopen the site as a club.

The Luminar Group said the club will instead re-open as a world buffet restaurant.

A spokesperson for the Luminar Group, which also runs Lava and Ignite, Oceana and Liquid clubs, said: “It was brought to our attention that a nightclub called Club Koko was planning to re-open at our former Ikon Jaxx venue at the end of August.

“As owners and licence holders of the venue we have no intention of re-opening it as a nightclub and have recently leased the site to a Chinese restaurant owner, who is currently carrying out renovations on-site.

“The Luminar Group has not sold the licence to any other nightclub operator, including Club Koko.”

The bogus page was removed by Facebook on Friday.

The Luminar spokesperson added: “We do not know who this operator is and would urge people not to give any personal details as we believe it to be a hoax.

“We have reported our concerns to the police and they are carrying out investigations. Anyone who is concerned should contact the police and their bank if necessary.”

Inspector Andy Sidebotham from Bolton Division of Greater Manchester Police said: “We have received reports of an alleged hoax Facebook page that has been set up and are currently investigating.”

Ikon Jaxx closed in January 2012 after trade fell by more than £1million. The new restaurant is set to open this October.
