WHEN the new “hair” to the throne was named, a salon in Bolton was royally chuffed.

For George Alexander Hair Design, in Morris Green Lane, now shares its name with the future king — His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge.

Owner Debra Marsden has now invited the prince to her salon for his first haircut.

She said: “I got quite a few texts when the news came through and lots of customers have been commenting on it.

“I think there’s a good chance that Kate and William had driven down Morris Green Lane at some point and been inspired by the name of the salon.” Debra, aged 44, changed the name of her salon in February as an homage to her two sons — George, aged 19, and 16-year-old Alexander. They think the whole thing is quite funny and a bit ironic,” she said.

The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, gave birth to her son on July 24 and mounting speculation about the baby’s name ended when the couple announced the name several days later.

Bookmakers had made George the odds on favourite and Debra said she now wishes she had put a bet on it.

She said she would be more than happy to cut baby George’s hair if the family were ever in the Bolton area, adding: “We do lots of haircuts for youngsters so we would be happy to do that — although I don’t think it is very likely.”

Debra has owned and managed the unisex hair salon in Morris Green for the past 23 years.
