UPDATE: Masked men with machete rob tens of thousands of pounds from petrol station
TWO masked raiders armed with a machete escaped with tens of thousands of pounds — after they threatened security staff delivering money to a garage cash machine.
The incident happened just before 6.50am on Wednesday morning at the Shell garage in Beaumont Road, Bolton.
The van was making a cash delivery to the ATM at the petrol station when the two men, who were wearing balaclavas, threatened the security guards and stole a large amount of money.
After stealing the cash from the van, the men escaped in a stolen Audi S3 and headed in the direction of Wigan Road. The car was later recovered in Doyle Road, Bolton.
No one was injured in the incident.
The two men were wearing balaclavas and gloves — one of them has been described as wearing all black clothing while the second had a grey top and black trousers on.
Nauman Kushnood, aged 25, the manager of the Shell garage, said: “I have watched the incident back on CCTV and you can see the two guys were hiding somewhere and then jumped out at the security guards.
“The person who was working at the garage at the time said a customer ran in saying that something bad was happening outside. It looked like very a scary incident.”
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Two men wearing balaclavas and armed with a machete threatened the security guards and stole a large amount of cash.
“No one was injured during the incident. Police inquiries are ongoing.”
No arrests have been made. Anyone with any information is asked to call the police on 0161 8565761.
