New appeal to catch knife thug after 62-year-old stabbed in his own home

A 62-YEAR-old resident who was stabbed four times in his own home is still in a critical condition in hospital.
The stabbing took place in Diamond Street, Leigh, at about 5.30pm on Sunday, August 25.
Det Chief Insp Howard Millington said: “This man has spent the best part of a week in hospital and remains very poorly.
“He has been subjected to a terrifying attack and is gravely ill.
“His family are both desperate for him to recover but also for answers so we are renewing our appeal for anyone with information about this horrendous stabbing to call us on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
The victim had just returned home when he heard a knock on the door and went to answer it.
He was confronted by a man who is believed to have forced his way in and stabbed him four times in the back and chest with a blade.
After snatching the victim's wallet as he lay defenceless on the ground, the attacker then fled.
Witnesses saw the man go to the victim’s house earlier in the day and on a previous occasion.
He is white, about 5ft 9in, in his 30s, of medium build and with short fair coloured hair.
