Bolton children enjoy first day at school
YOUNGSTERS could hardly conceal their delight at starting school.
The big day had finally arrived and there were smiles aplenty as children donned their first school uniform with pride and made their way to their new classrooms.
Teachers were on hand to greet the youngsters — and undoubtedly to reassure parents — and new friendships were forged.
Cllr Kevin McKeon, Bolton Council’s cabinet member for schools, said: “The children are beginning an exciting time in their lives. I know all the schools in Bolton are very caring environments, with the head and teachers determined to release the potential of every single child.
“I wish them all well and more than anything else, happiness.”
Some youngsters had the reassurance of their siblings being in the same year — with a set of a twins starting at Gaskell Primary School.
Emily Kirk, headteacher of Gaskell, said: “We’re honoured as teachers to be part of this special time for children and their parents.
“Being part of each child’s education is a privilege and it is always very exciting when they embark on their precious journey. Before the big day arrives all our new reception children have visited our school, made friends and met their new teachers. Our reception parents come in with their children and join in the fun for the first part of each morning.”
She added: “We are passionate that all our children enjoy their time here at Gaskell and leave us as happy, friendly and confident individuals who have developed a love of learning and achieve the best that they possibly can.”
