BLACKROD residents have been left feeling “helpless and physically sick” by youths who have been terrorising their estate.
There have been reports of young people going to to the Greenbarn Way area and kicking people’s doors, throwing eggs and shining laser pens into the houses of older, more vulnerable residents.
The latest incident to occur was on Thursday evening, when Greater Manchester Police were called to the home of an 83-year-old woman who they said was left petrified by a group of teenagers kicking her door.
The police said a group of three or four boys, who were between 14 and 16 years old, had been kicking doors in the area.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “This has been happening for a while — young people are coming into the area and throwing eggs and stones and kicking people’s doors.
“They seem to be specifically targeting older people — they are just cowards and what they are doing makes me physically sick.
“One day someone is going to have a heart attack.”
The resident said he has attempted to chase young people from the area on a number of occasions and believes parents are not doing enough to keep tabs on their children.
He said: “I’ve got three kids and although they are not angels I have an idea of where they are and what they are up to — If they were doing something like this I would know and I would be furious.”
Ward councillor Ann Cunliffe said: “I think Blackrod parents need to know where their children are because this is appalling. How you can target vulnerable people like that is beyond me.
“The majority of the young people in Blackrod are fantastic and this handful of people are giving everyone a bad name.”
