THIS is the terrifying moment that a police officer was mown down by a hit-and-run driver in Bolton town centre.

A police officer was trying to stop the car in Bank Street in the early hours of Saturday, September 7, when the driver reversed before ploughing into him and speeding away.

He bounced off the bonnet and roof of the car and fell to the ground, but was lucky to escape with only minor injuries.

He has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering from knee injuries.

Police said the car's registration in this image has been blurred out because the car was fitted with false plates, which they believe will have since been changed.

Anyone who recognises the vehicle can call police on 101 or 0161 8565619, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
