VIDEO: Bolton features in stop smoking TV advert
BLINK and you could miss it — but eagle-eyed viewers will have spotted a Bolton landmark in a television advert.
Bolton Parish Church can be seen in the NHS’s Stoptober campaign, with shoppers rolling a giant, inflatable wheel along Deansgate, past the Money Shop, towards Churchgate.
The advert was filmed last month and shoppers can be seen laughing and pointing at the unusual sight in the town centre.
Bolton Parish Church is in good company in the advert with other landmarks including Blackpool Tower and the Angel of the North.
Adrian Butterworth, smoking cessation service manager at Bolton Stop Smoking Service, said: “We were really pleased that Bolton was chosen to star in the Stoptober campaign video and hope it will encourage more smokers to sign up.
“Unfortunately, smoking is a particularly bad problem in Bolton, with the 21 per cent of the population still addicted to it. That’s about 44, 000 people, so we still have a long way to go.
“I would urge anyone who is struggling with smoking to either get in touch with us.”
The Stoptober campaign, which encourages smokers to give up smoking for the whole of October, is in its second year.
Alongside Stoptober, Macmillan Cancer Support is launching Go Sober for October to encourages drinker to have a dry month.
The Bolton Stop Smoking Service, which is part of the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, has been out in force at the University of Bolton Freshers week to promote Stoptober and the Shisha: Get The Facts campaign.
