Farnworth police do triathlon to help sick colleague
POLICE have triumphed in a triathlon challenge to raise funds for a sick colleague.
Det Insp Denise Pye, PC Colette Phillips, PC Stuart Gaskell and Police Community Support Officer Charlotte Derby, all based at Farnworth Police Station, took part in The South Manchester Triathlon on Sunday to raise funds for their colleague PCSO Trevor Wyatt. They raised £500.
PCSO Wyatt, known locally as the “Face of Farnworth”, is battling an incurable form of asbestos cancer after being diagnosed earlier this year.
The officers wanted to raise funds for the 54-year-old to spend on a holiday or memorable moments with his wife, Jeanette, and three children, aged 30, 13 and 10.
The police pushed themselves to their limits and all finished the gruelling course within two hours. The triathlon involved a 400m swim, a 23.8km cycle and a 6.3km run around east Wilmslow.
PCSO Derby said: “We wanted to do it because Trevor is a very popular member of staff. He can talk to a homeless person just as easy as he can a councillor — and have them all in stitches.”
