Police probe into Bolton Wanderers match assault claim
POLICE are investigating allegations that a football steward assaulted a fan.
The18-year-old drew attention from stewards when they took exception to him filming on his mobile phone.
Other fans sprang to the teenager's defence, causing a row with the stewards, which quickly died down — though a steward was seen to knock the phone out of his hand, causing it to fall to the floor.
The family claim that, later on in the game, the father went to the toilet and, on his way there, was man-handled by stewards and assaulted.
The man and his son both gave statements to police, who are now investigating.
A Bolton Wanderers spokesman said: “This is presently being investigated internally and we cannot comment any further at this stage.”
On August 24, The Bolton News reported that a Wanderers steward grabbed Reading fan, Charlie Ditchburn, and pushed him up against a wall as they tried to clear the stadium at full time.
The Wanderers’ spokesman added: “This was investigated internally and appropriate actions were taken. Mr Ditchburn was advised of our findings.”
