Blackrod Youth Centre to get £75,000 revamp
A YOUTH centre in Blackrod is going to be “brought into the 21st century” by undergoing a £75,000 makeover.
The centre in Manchester Road is set to see major improvements as Bolton Council is proposing to refurbish the look of the building both inside and out and remove the tower.
The work will include replacing toilets, storage facilities and the group room as well as plans for a new coffee bar. There will be also be a new porch installed and the currently dilapidated building will be totally re-decorated.
Youngsters at the centre will be consulted on how the centre should look and what equipment is needed.
Ward Councillor Stephen Pickup said he is “over the moon” about the plans.
He said: “Having this facility in the community is vital in a place like Blackrod and the works will secure the centre’s future for local youngsters, enabling them to meet in a greatly improved environment.”
The sentiments were echoed by fellow ward councillor Anne Cunliffe, who said: “This updating project will ensure Blackrod Youth Centre continues to meet the needs of present and future generations of Blackrod young people.
“The centre is a low cost place to go which offers a sense of belonging, somewhere for the young people to hang out and talk about things that concern them also offering activities and support.”
