Teenager stabbed man in the chest and face with kitchen knife
A TEENAGER has been jailed for stabbing his victim in the chest and face with a kitchen knife.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested after he stabbed Denbo Sanyang in his chest at a home in Barsham Drive, Deane, in the early hours of Sunday, April 21.
Hugh Barton, prosecuting, said the attack happened after a group of men came looking for the teenager “seeking revenge”.
Bolton Crown Court yesterday heard the defendant had knocked a man, who believed he was the teenager’s friend, unconscious in Derby Street before the stabbing.
His victim suffered blurred vision, pigment damage to his cheek and needed stitches.
Mr Barton said a group of six men, armed with sticks, went to Barsham Drive after they were told the defendant was there.
He told the court: “The defendant accepts he armed himself with a kitchen knife and stabbed Mr Sanyang.
“Mr Sanyang was stabbed to the left chest, then was stabbed to the left cheek.”
The victim suffered a punctured lung and injuries to his chest cavity.
He spent five days in hospital before being discharged.
The defendant received injuries to his hand and thighs.
Iain Simkin, defending, said the incident involved a “peculiar” set of circumstances and he accepts he went “over the top”.
The teenager was said to have suffered a traumatic start in life.
During his time on remand he has been doing chef work and is responsible for supporting inmates through their first night in custody by offering support.
The boy, who has previous convictions for actual bodily harm and dishonesty crimes, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and grievously bodily harm.
Recorder Robert Crawford, sentencing, said: “You didn’t go out with a weapon to cause others harm. A group of men came looking for you.”
He was sentenced to two years in a young offenders' institution for wounding and a four-month sentence for grievous bodily harm. The sentences will run consecutively.
He was ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharged.
An application by The Bolton News to name the defendant was rejected by the judge.
