James Corden lookalike blags VIP treatment at Birdcage in Manchester
IT is perhaps a caper funnyman James Corden’s alter-ego Smithy may have got up to on a night out.
Being mistaken for a celebrity — and then taking advantage of all the trappings of fame — including VIP treatment, free drinks and pictures with adoring fans.
And so no one — including the comic himself — can blame telecoms worker and Corden-lookalike Wes Howson, who is loving his 15 minutes of fame.
The 24-year-old, who works at BT Business Direct, based at the Middlebrook, has hit the national headlines after staff at the Birdcage club in Manchester mistook him for the telly personality and lavished him with free drinks while fellow clubbers asked him to pose for pictures.
And his antics even won approval from the Gavin and Stacey star who tweeted him saying: “Love this guy @Wez_chiiiii classic!”
Revellers have mistaken Mr Howson for the television personality before — but this is the first time he has taken advantage of the situation.
He said: “It’s happened quite a lot, at the end of nights out, people have come up to me thinking I’m him but I’ve never played on it before.
“When the club in Manchester thought I was him — I just thought ‘why not?’ “I couldn’t believe he tweeted me — he is a legend.” And it would appear that now he has had a taste of the VIP life, he is considering a full-time foray into the lookalike business.
Mr Howson, from Whittle-le-Woods, added: “People actually think I look like him, so why not? It’s definitely something I am going to look into.”
