Horwich to get new play area after old one was wrecked by vandals
A PLAY area that was targeted by vandals will undergo a huge transformation.
It will be completely rebuilt with new equipment.
The play area was vandalised last summer.
The damage was so bad the play park was considered unsafe and the play equipment had to be removed.
Horwich and Blackrod ward councillor, Cllr Stephen Pickup, said: “The equipment at Greenwood Avenue was life expired and due for renewal. Unfortunately due to vandalism the play equipment had to be taken away last summer before the new installation could be scheduled. I have been working with council officers to enable the new equipment to be installed at the earliest opportunity.”
Work is currently being carried out at another play area in Vicarage Road, Blackrod, and once that work is completed the Greenwood Avenue project will begin.
The installation of the new equipment is expected to last about four weeks.
Fellow ward Cllr, Councillor Ann Cunliffe added: “This is fantastic news for local families with toddlers. This is a much needed facility.”
