A MAN who had a sawn-off shotgun in his van has been arrested at a retail park in Leigh.
Police swooped on the man at about 8.30pm last night at the Parsonage retail park.
They found the shotgun and ammo after searching his van, a Renault Traffic.
The man is still in custody being quizzed by police.
Det Supt Jason Hudson, from Titan, said: “We believe this man is actively involved in criminality and to think about him in possession of a sawn-off shotgun chills the spine.
“I have no doubt that this weapon would have, at some point, been used in the commission of an offence and for us to recover it before that can happen is a fantastic result."
The arrest followed an investigation by Titan, the specialised north west regional organised crime task force.
Det Supt Hudson added: “This arrest is the culmination of an intense period of work and a forensic examination of the gun is now underway.
"While we can’t elaborate any more on that for obvious reasons, I want to reassure the public that Titan officers are working day and night – with colleagues from Greater Manchester and other police forces across the north west - to target, disrupt and bring to justice organised crime gangs."
