A BOLTON butchers is aiming to impress celebrity chef Simon Rimmer — and prove it makes one of the best bangers in the UK.
Barrons of Beef will aim to get Mr Rimmer’s tastebuds sizzling in a hotly contested cook-off at Sam’s Chop House in Leeds on Tuesday next week.
Young butcher William Ross, aged 22, will be travelling to Yorkshire to represent Phil Barron’s Chorley Old Road shop, and he has been busy perfecting his pork, cabbage and bacon sausage recipe in recent weeks.
The competition will be judged by Mr Rimmer. Nine butchers have been selected for the Discover Britain’s Greatest Sausages event, which is celebrating British Sausage Week.
Barron’s entry will compete against rivals from Yorkshire and Humberside.
Organisers have already given the locally produced sausage a great build-up in its pre-publicity.
The success is no surprise to Mr Barron, who was runner-up in a competition to find the best butcher in the country when he was 18 years old.
According to Mr Barron, the shop excels in banger competitions because there are so many around the country.
He said: “We have won gold awards for the best sausages in the North West and have done well in many other competitions.”
