THE owners of a pub proved they had the “bottle” to take on the Manchester 10km for the seventh year running — raising more than £400.
Shaun and Janine Ballington, landlord and landlady of the New Inn in Ainsworth Road, Radcliffe, spurned sponsorship forms in favour of persuading customers to leave their change in a giant bottle on the bar, and since completing the run in July they have raised £427 for Bury Hospice.
Mrs Ballington said: “We do the run for a different charity each year and decided to choose Bury Hospice because it was local.
“Sometimes it is hard work collecting sponsorship forms so having the bottle on the bar was an easier way of asking people to donate — whether just a few pennies from their change or more.”
