A SHOP’S expansion will create new 40 jobs.
Variety retailer B&M is set to open a bigger store in Walkden and will need extra employees.
The store has moved from its current position just outside the Ellesmere Shopping Centre in Bolton Road, in the town centre.
Its new and much larger 12,800 sq ft store will be at the hub of the recently refurbished shopping complex.
Since the jobs became available, bosses have received more than 200 applications.
B&M area manager Larry Downey said: “Walkden is committed to recruiting from the local area and I’m pleased we’ve found a great team from in and around Walkden.” Store manager Neil Duke added: “We’ve all worked very hard over the past few weeks to make sure the store is ready for the opening.
“We’re extremely pleased to be creating local jobs for local people and look forward to continuing to play a part in supporting the community.”
Kids’ favourite Peppa Pig will be at the store next Friday to officially open it and welcome the new store’s first shoppers.
B&M was formed in 1978 and is now one of the leading variety retailers in the UK.
From its first store in Blackpool, B&M has grown to 360 stores and employs more than 13,000 staff throughout the country.
