EVEN a school open evening could not escape Doctor Who fever.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the popular television series, Rivington and Blackrod High School had a science fiction theme to its annual open evening, with a dalek joining the English team.

And children visiting the department had to guess how many books tall the dalek was.

Three students correctly guessed that Doctor Who’s nemesis was 80 books tall and won £250 worth of books presented to them by the Doctor himself.

Kath McGuire, director of English at Rivington and Blackrod High School, said “As a department we wanted to highlight the importance of reading at our open evening as this is a focus for the whole school.

“We make every effort to make reading fun for our students and hope that both schools will enjoy the books that we have chosen for them.”
