A STRUGGLING mum does not know how she will care for her seriously injured son in Jamaica.

Jacqueline Holness’s eldest son, Romaine McLean, aged 23, died on November 14, after his Mitsubishi car was involved in a crash with a lorry in Lilliput, Jamaica.

Her youngest son, Eshayne Clarke, aged 17, suffered severe head injuries in the accident but has now been released from hospital.

Miss Holness — who has been a British citizen for nine years and lives in Little Leveris still in her native country with Eshayne but does not know how she will cope financially with his care.

She is also struggling to pay for Romaine’s funeral, which will take place on Sunday, December 15, in Lilliput.

The mum-of-three’s sister, Marlene Peterkin, also lives in Bolton. She says her sister is struggling to come to terms with loss of her eldest son and the injuires to her youngest.

Miss Peterkin, aged 41, said: “This is a very difficult time for my sister. Not only has she lost her eldest son, she is struggling with what has happened to Eshayne.

“She has started to make funeral arrangements for Romaine but she is not sure how she will pay for it. People in Bolton raised some money for her flights and her family helped as much as they can. She has her British citizenship and doesn’t want to lose it but she cannot leave Eshayne as he is now.”

In an email to The Bolton News, Miss Holness, of Little Lever, said: “I am not sure when I’m likely to return the UK yet, as my son is okay physically, but is mentally unstable and needs my immediate attention.

“He is awake but he is still not able to remember anything and is still very weak.”
