An 11-month-old girl was freed by firefighters after becoming locked in her living room.

The girl was stuck in the living room of her home in New Church Road, Smithills, when the handle came off the door.

Firefighters from Bolton North fire station came to the house at about 5pm after receiving a call from the child’s mother, and they quickly freed her.

The girl was not visibly upset by the situation, and was said to be happily playing with her toys while she was locked in for about 10 minutes.

So this is what overpaid firemen do instead of fighting fires is it? How many turned up? Will they come and tidy my garden? How about wash my car? The fire "service" is not for trivial call-outs such as the one described.

It's not the firemen, it's the morons who call them out. It's bad enough they lock their kids in a car, but what kind of door can't be broken down? Selfish arseholes.

I've realised you're right - privatise the lot & only get them to turn out to fires between 9-5. Plus to save further costs they should be required to travel on bus passes & carry their own buckets
