A GENEROUS Bolton couple celebrated their golden wedding by asking well-wishers to make donations to charity.
Brian and Olwen Handley donated £1,000 to Bolton Hospice after their celebration of 50 years of marriage.
And it is not the first time the pair, of Deepdale Road, Breightmet, have made such a generous gesture.
In 2007, when Mr Handley celebrated his 70th birthday, he donated £790 to the hospice — all cash he had received in lieu of gifts.
Mr Handley said the hospice was a “good local cause” and that he knew the importance of donating the cash given because he had lost three brothers to cancer.
The couple were married at St Columbus Church in Tonge Moor, Bolton, in 1963.
