WHEN it comes to learning, these bright youngsters cannot get enough of it.
Sunning Hill Primary School has been found to be a vibrant place where its children develop a “thirst for learning” and go on to achieve high standards.
Ofsted inspectors marked the school as outstanding — the highest possible mark the government’s education watchdog can give to a school.
The school’s achievement is even more remarkable given that the children start school with a low skill base.
All areas of the school — achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management — received the coveted one mark.
Ofsted inspectors reported: “Children start school with skills that are below those typically expected for their age. They make rapid progress in the reception classes and achieve well.”
Pupils were described as a “exceptionally courteous, friendly and welcoming” and proud of their work.
Headteacher Sandra Kelly was also singled out for praise.
The report stated: “The headteacher’s ambition and drive have ensured the school is constantly improving. A shared vision is pervasive throughout the school.”
Governors were praised for challenging the school and holding it to account in a “supportive manner”.
Mrs Kelly said: “All members of the school community are delighted with the judgements of the recent Ofsted inspection. We are very fortunate to have enthusiastic pupils, supportive parents and governors and a dedicated staff team.
“Through a shared vision we have worked hard together to develop a vibrant learning community of which we are very proud.”
