BOLTON has gone Christmas crackers for all things festive.

From street entertainment and an ice rink to Santa himself, Victoria Square has been transformed into a winter wonderland.

So far the town centre has seen two life-size Christmas Crackers, who have been entertaining shoppers with their wacky costumes, and street performers Pink Angels, who towered above all as they gave out some retail therapy at The Market Place, sprinkling fairy dust on shoppers.

Also, the 200-square metre ice rink has opened in front of the Town Hall, attracting hundreds of excited children and adults trying out their skating skills.

But the fun doesn’t end there — a giant wheel is due to arrive in Victoria Square this week.

The 100ft high Ferris wheel will be set up on Thursday as part of Bolton Council’s bumper festive package.

A speciality market is also due in Newport Street from December 12 to 15, where there will be a chance to meet real reindeer, and street entertainment will be laid on to help pull in the crowds.

Council leader Cllr Cliff Morris said: “The giant wheel is a fantastic addition to the town centre and something that is sure to appeal to people of all ages.

“We know how popular these attractions are from places like Manchester and Liverpool.

“Together with everything else we’ve got happening, it really will be a winter wonderland experience not to be missed.”

Meanwhile youngsters rode the Santa Express at Moss Bank Park at the weekend, while children took part in a Christmas tree festival at St James’ Church in Edgworth.
