A FOOD firm has been stung with a £30,000 bill for the filthy state of one of its bakeries.

The £27,000 fine, plus £3,000 costs, is thought to be the highest that has been dished out to a food company in Bolton.

The prosecution came about after a routine inspection at Coleman’s Bakery, in Chorley Old Road, when Fast Business Services Limited took over the premises in February 2012.

Despite a number of warnings the company continued to deliver poor food hygiene standards.

The nine offences, which happened between May and September last year, related to dirty equipment, the state of the structure of the premises and the company’s non-compliance with pest proofing the building.

One of the offences related to whether a member of staff, Mohammed Ebrahim Tarkesh Dooz, had received any food hygiene training.

Fast Business Services Limited was fined £3,000 for each of the nine offences at Bolton Magistrates Court on Thursday — a total of £27,000.

A further £3,000 in costs was also awarded to Bolton Council.

The Bolton News understands it is the highest fine issued to a food company in Bolton. The business is now operated by another company.

Cllr Nick Peel, the council's executive cabinet member for environmental services and regulations, said: “Bolton Council will work with food businesses to help them comply with food hygiene legislation.

"However, legal action is taken against those businesses who fail to comply and operate businesses where there is a risk to public health.

“In this case, the level of fine reflects the seriousness of the offences and the poor attitude of the company towards compliance with the law.”
