FROM a smiling Robin Hood to a tougher-looking character, the winners of a poster design competition have been revealed.

The Octagon Theatre invited youngsters to design a poster for its festive production of Robin Hood, which runs until Saturday, January 11.

Isabella Silvano, aged nine, won the age five to 10 category with her poster which featured a castle and eye-catching greenery.

Rory Squitieri, aged 15, was named the winner of the 11 to 15 category for his poster which sees Robin Hood drawing his bow and arrow.

They won tickets to see the show and the chance to meet the cast — and will have their artwork printed professionally and displayed in the theatre.

Elizabeth Newman, the Octagon’s associate director, judged the entries with Marc Small, who plays Robin Hood.

She said: “We were blown away by the number of young people who entered our poster competition.

“Marc and I were in awe of the talent and both of us were highly impressed by the time and energy that all of the young people had clearly spent on their wonderful posters.

“The fabulous vibrant drawings once again showed us there are so many talented artists in Bolton.

The judges also chose a third entry to be commended for artistic ability.

Lloyd Foster, aged nine, also received tickets to the show and got to meet the cast.

More than 50 budding artists submitted entries to the competition, including classes from St Teresa RC Primary School, Little Lever, and St George’s Central Primary, Tyldesley.
