GRAB your blue suede shoes, because the King has come to Bolton - and so has his biggest fan.

Johnny Elvis got Victoria Square rocking this afternoon when he played an impromptu set for the Christmas shoppers.

And no-one was more pleased than Elvis super-fan Ruth Nelson, who stuck around to dance with him as he performed some of his famous tunes.

The 64-year-old from Great Lever has hundreds of items of Elvis memorabilia in her house – from cups to clocks, framed pictures and tea towels.

Ruth said: “I was in the town centre to pay my council tax and go for a coffee when I saw him.

“He said he’s come from America to play here, but I think he’s only come from Stockport.

“He’s very good. My favourite tune is The Wonder of You, as you can put other people’s names in it especially around this time of year.

“It would be good if we could get more tribute acts into the square – like Cliff Richard and Robbie Williams. They could raise money for charity too.”

Johnny Elvis said he was enjoying playing a few songs for the lovely ladies of Bolton.

He said: “I’m pleased to be playing in Bolton, it reminds me of Mississippi.

“Some people say I have died – we just keep that quiet, u’huh.”
