A MOTORIST was seriously injured in a head-on smash between a 4x4 and a tipper truck.
The accident happened in Newton Road, Lowton, at about 10.30am today.
A 43-year-old man was driving his Nissan Navara 4x4 when it was involved in a head-on crash with a Volvo tipper truck.
The lorry then smashed into a tree, which in turn fell onto a parked Fiat Punto.
The Nissan driver was trapped inside his vehicle and he was later removed by firefighters.
He was taken to Salford Royal Hospital with injuries that police described as "serious and life-changing".
No-one else was injured in the incident.
Part of Newton Road was closed while emergency services dealt with the scene.
