A LARGE blaze at Armstrongs recycling plant in Horwich has been successfully put out by firefighters.

More than 35 firefighters battled the flames which engulfed about 45 tonnes of household waste at the firm's warehouse last night.

Crews arrived on the scene at about 5pm and poured 6,000 litres of water onto the waste to put out the fire.

They left the scene at about 11pm.

This was the second fire at Armstrongs this year.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
