Mum’s the word for Bid Lo winner Jenny
OUR Bid Lo winner is saving her prize for the future.
Jenny Baistow, from Westhoughton, won a £399 cot and accessories from Nursery Time in Barrowford for a bid of 4p — one of her lucky numbers.
The mum-of-one says she hopes to find room to store the items in case there is the pitter-patter of tiny feet in the future.
The reverse auction competition, which works by giving the prize to the lowest unique bid, has attracted a number of entries from across the borough since it was launched last month.
Miss Baistow, who runs Bespoke Beauty in Bolton Road, Atherton, said: “I’ve always bought The Bolton News and after I’ve finished reading it I always take it to my father-in-law, so when I saw the Bid Lo competition I thought, why not?
“I bid 4p, which is one of my lucky numbers, but I still can’t believe I’ve actually won.
“It’s a lot of money’s worth of items. I remember when I bought my daughter’s cot that was the best part of £500, so to have one given to me is a really good opportunity for the future if we have any more children.
“Failing that I have a couple of friends who are pregnant so they can always see if there is anything they want, and if so they can have it for a donation towards The Christie hopsital.
“We lost a family member two and a half years ago to cancer and since then we’ve done all sorts of sponsored runs for the charity, which is close to our hearts.”
Other winners include Mrs J Boardman from Blackburn, who won a £500 door from Blackburn and Ribble Glass for 2p; Mrs Eileen Holt from Accrington, who won a £300 washing machine for 12p; Ray Bate from Warrington, who won JD parties Christmas party for 10 at Tatton Park for 4p; and Alison MacDonald from Warrington, who won a £300 rug from Pendle Carpets for 2p.
