A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 62-year-old was found dead in a flat.

He was discovered, unconscious, at 8.30pm on Boxing Day, at Stock's Court, Walkden.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination has not revealed the cause of his death, police said.

The man was found by police investigating a road accident earlier that day, at about 2pm, in Walkden Road.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody.

A neighbour said: “It’s really worrying, I have two teenage children living with me. A month ago someone tried to break in to the bottom flat at the other side of the building and a few weeks ago at 4am the alarms in the whole building went off after there was a power cut.

“The only thing I’ve noticed that is different from usual recently is that the lights outside the building haven’t been working for a few days so it’s really dark coming into the building.”

“The police have been outside since Thursday night at about 10.30pm. An officer knocked on our door and asked if there were any cameras outside but as far as I know there aren't. Then this morning yellow police tape had been put up."

A police spokesman said enquiries are ongoing.
