CHILDREN from Horwich and Blackrod have benefited from awards totalling £3,500 provided by Horwich Rotary Club.
The club’s Youth Opportunity Awards scheme made the awards to 29 young people who live in or attend schools in Horwich and Blackrod. The money is geared towards enabling the young people to develop an individual talent in which they have shown promise.
Cash for the scheme has been raised by members of the Rotary Club of Horwich during the rotary year.
Awards were presented at Rivington and Blackrod High School and St John’s Methodist Church by Ted Wisedale, president of the Rotary Club of Horwich.
Mr Wisedale said: “The club wishes to thank the people of Horwich and Blackrod for their generosity this year and feel that this scheme is an excellent way of investing in the talent of our young people.”
The value of the scheme was demonstrated when Mr Wisedale was informed about the progress of a former recipient, Hannah Walmsley, aged 23, who received an award 10 years ago.
Hannah is now a student at Nottingham University and has spent six months in China.
