THE film which charts Nelson Mandela’s life, by Bolton director Justin Chadwick, has been nominated for a Bafta (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Award.

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom has been nominated in the Outstanding British Film category.

Mr Chadwick, aged 45, went to Turton High School and developed his passion for acting and storytelling at Bolton Little Theatre.

His film faces competition from Gravity, Philomena, Rush, Saving Mr Banks and The Selfish Giant.

Gravity leads the pack in number of nominations with 11, one ahead of both 12 Years A Slave and American Hustle.

The event, known as the EE British Academy Film Awards, will be held in London on Sunday, February 16.
