THOUSANDS of people are expected to join in a walk this weekend to celebrate and commemorate the birthday of the Muslim holy prophet Muhammad and the work of saint Sheik Sufi Mohammed Aslam.

The peaceful walk, which will take place on Sunday, will begin at about 1.45pm from the Makkah Mosque in Grecian Crescent, Great Lever, and will end at the Ghosia Mosque in Auburn Street, also in Great Lever.

It should last about one hour.

It is the 19th time that the celebration walk has taken place in Bolton and people from across the UK are expected to attend.

The walk will result in some disruption for road users with closures in Rishton Lane, Higher Swan Lane, Bridgeman Street, High Street and Settle Street in Great Lever on Sunday between the times of 1.30pm and 2.45pm.

A spokesman for the organisers of the walk said they would like to apologise for any disruption caused.
