Iain Duncan Smith dismisses UKIP threat

The Bolton News: Iain Duncan Smith in Bolton Iain Duncan Smith in Bolton

IAIN Duncan Smith has dismissed UKIP’s chances in Bolton at the next election — calling them “a collection of a series of protests”.

Cllr David Greenhalgh, leader of the Conservatives in Bolton, warned voters after the recent Harper Green by-election that a vote for UKIP would shore up Labour’s hold of Bolton and make Tory candidates less likely to succeed.

But during his visit to Bolton, Mr Duncan Smith said the Conservatives in government were addressing the concerns UKIP voters might have by promising a referendum on Britain’s EU membership and introducing tighter legislation on immigration.

He added: “UKIP say: ‘We want to have a referendum on Europe’ — the Tories have said we’ll give you a referendum on Europe.

“They say they want control on immigration — we are bringing it down, we have cut it by a third from where it was.

“I have introduced some very tough restrictions on people coming in from Romania and Bulgaria claiming benefits. They can’t claim them until they’ve been here three months.

“It’s about getting the message across to people that we are driving the change that’s necessary.

“If you vote for UKIP you don’t get what you want — you get something else.”

This man is a buffoon to call UKIP a protest vote. People have had enough of all three main parties who between them have brought this once great country to its knees. John Major, the wretched Blair and now this lot of self serving tossers. It's not about protest you ignoramus, it's about CHANGE, that's why people are turning to UKIP.

IDS said “If you vote for UKIP you don’t get what you want — you get something else.” Yes, people like you who have no clue and can only think about themselves. Like Cameron who lied over the referendum to get votes otherwise it would have happened by now. Like Steve Webb who lied about getting the frozen pension policy scrapped but now in the perfect place as Pensions Minister does nothing but defend the robbery. Many ex-servicemen and women who retired abroad in the Commonwealth get no annual increases ever. Thanks for nothing having put their lives on the line for their country. Like you IDS who is unqualified for anything in a post that he has no idea how to manage and should be sent back into the army and Afghanistan to do something that maybe he knows a little about. Too much aid going to places that do not need it - India with a space program - how stupid. Get the bills paid in the UK before giving anything away especially the 55million per day that we give to the EU to keep idiots like Blair and Kinnock on an ever better gravy train run by unelected morons who have yet to get the finances fully audited from day 1.
Who are you voting for lol. Good man ; )

A politician must be, apart from economical with the truth, a great actor. IDS is both. What is most certainly going to happen is the fact, that UKIP will put the Tories back into opposition, and give the reigns back to Labour. They in fact are the "Kingmakers", and as more the Tories and the Government are at each other's throat, as better for UKIP. Too many U turns and too many EU interference have made it easy for UKIP, so IDS has to struggle on and has to tell us outright nonsense, and has to keep on smiling!!

"Give the reigns back to Labour....." Are you mad? Would you really trust the two Ed's to get the country moving again? UKIP are a protest vote. Although Farage is an agreeable bloke he does not have the talent in his party to form a government. Despite the fact that many in Bolton dislike the Tories historically they have always been better at running the economy than Labour. On certain issues i agree they aren't brilliant but overall they are probably the best of a bad bunch. As they are now tempered with a little liberalism as part of the coalition i think things are actually improving quite nicely considering the mess we were in a few years ago.
