A BRAVE shop worker confronted armed robbers who held him at gunpoint - forcing them to leave empty-handed.

Two men armed with a gun targeted Costcutter in Ainsworth Road, Radcliffe between 9.40pm and 9.50pm on Sunday (January 12).

One of the would-be robbers – who was wearing a Halloween-style skeleton mask – pointed a silver handgun at members of staff and demanded cash.

A shop worker confronted the men, who then left without taking anything.

The man with the gun is described as being about five foot six inches tall and of medium build and was wearing a black hooded coat with the hood up.

The other man is described as being 5ft tall and of a large build. He had his face covered with a scarf.

Detective Sergeant Alison Byrne said: "While nothing was taken, it was a frightening experience that has left the shop workers understandably shaken.

"We would ask anyone with information about who may be responsible or who remembers seeing the two men in the area to contact police."

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 8181 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
