A YOUNG dog was tied to a 20kg sandbag and drowned in a fishing lodge between Atherton and Daisy Hill.

The two-year-old brown Rottweiler cross Staffordshire bull terrier dog, which had not been neutered, was found by a dog walker who saw it in one of the two lodges alongside Lower Leigh Road.

An RSPCA inspector said: “Tests have shown that the poor animal was alive when it met its fate, weighed down by a black sandbag tied to a blue and red lead.

“The two-year-old had been microchipped locally. It was found by a dog walker on October 13 and had been in the water for between 24 and 48 hours.

“We have since been trying to find out the last known movements and whereabouts of this poor dog.

“We need people to come forward to help us.”
