ANOTHER Land Rover has been stolen in Bolton — the fourth to be taken in three months.

The theft, on December 29 in Westhoughton, follows similar incidents in Horwich, Heaton and Astley Bridge, and police said they could not rule out a link between the crimes.

Watch CCTV of the theft here:

Robert Mansfield, aged 36, of Chelmer Close, had worked hard to rebuild and modify his Land Rover 90 before it was stolen.

He later saw the wreckage of his car after it had been dumped in Hindley Green.

Mr Mansfield said: “I have CCTV which showed the men stealing the car. It took two minutes.

“I presume they put something in the lock and then hot-wired it.

“It was a Land Rover 90 and I had worked hard to rebuild it, so I was gutted when someone in Hindley Green spotted it on its roof, having been stripped of its parts and destroyed.

“It looks like these cars are being targeted for parts.

“The older ones are quite easy to steal because the locks aren’t very good.

“Mine was very similar to the one that was taken in Horwich, which I saw in The Bolton News.”

Mr Mansfield said the theft came at a bad time because his other car had a fault and was in the garage.

The Land Rover enthusiast is now hoping his insurance will cover him for a new vehicle, although he said he will be choosing a more modern version as it will be more difficult to steal.

A police spokesman said: “No arrests have been made so far and enquiries into this incident are ongoing.”
